Female feticide is termed as the process of sex determination of a foetus when it is in the womb of the mother and undergoing abortion if the foetus is found out to be a girl. The natural sex ratio in India is between 103 and 107 and any number above is an indication of female feticide. India is termed as the 4th most dangerous country in the world for women with the highest female feticide incidents in the world. According, to last year’s UN report which suggested that India accounts for 45.8 million of world’s missing females over last 50 years. The report also presented an analysis that about 4,60,000 girls in India were missing at birth between the year 2013 and 2017. This will keep on continuing until the girl is considered to be a burden. This situation has become far worse in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit our country due to the lack of jobs and the families in the rural areas have become reluctant towards having a girl child. So, this situation should be taken care with utmost importance and as soon as possible because loosing another girl child is not an option. So, I request everyone to come forward and start creating awareness.

What would it be like to have a world without any women?

Yes, you are reading it correct a world without women this is what is going to happen if the situations are not taken under control. Female feticide i.e., killing the girl child even before it comes into existence if this keeps on continuing the females will be termed as endangered species. If supposed this situation arrives then slowly the number of male populations will also start dwindling down to zero. The reason being females only give birth to children be it a boy or a girl so when there will no females in the world automatically there will be no new births. According to last year’s population census there was 717.10 million males and 662.90 million females in India i.e., 108.18 males per 100 females this ratio is projected to further decline in the future. So, that a situation like this never appears necessary steps have to be taken, a girl child should be allowed to be born and not killed even before she is born. The rules of sex determination should be far more stringent under no circumstances the parents should be allowed to know the sex for their child before birth. It also important to create awareness and inform people about consequences if this issue is not handled with utmost importance and care.

Samvedna Mahila Kalyan Foundation an NGO that conducts awareness campaign on women welfare and female feticide. The organisation was setup in 2008 and its secretary is Mr. Ashutosh Singh. The
organisation works with national and local government to bring out new policies that are beneficial to women, also making the society aware about concerns related to female feticide and help poor children to support them in their study for better future. They are working on a project known as ‘HOPE’ under which they build a home for women who do not have their family and some of the females are neglected by their families & society. They are also working towards providing medical care and also a platform for the women where they can create their own
identity by working in their own area of expertise. Mr. Ashutosh believes that donation in terms of time is required far more than monetary donation. The reason being that if you can give him time thenhe can use it create awareness and spread his words among people. If even a handful of people can be made aware then a lot of can be
achieved and then the monetary donation can be used in a right place for helping people. So, with a little support Samvedna can build a strong foundation of home and risen the ray of ‘HOPE’.
